One of the nights we stayed in a little tiny town called Waihau Bay. "Wai", in the Maori language, means ocean or water. Waihau Bay means windy ocean bay - fortunately, it didn't live up to its name the day we were there. It did however, freeze the night we were there. The owners of the B&B, the evening before it froze, said it had never gotten cold enough to freeze in the 22 years they'd lived there. Hmmm This beach was just across the road from where we stayed.
