Flowers Everywhere

The next several photos are of some of the plants we currently have flowering in our front yard. An amazing array of flora for mid-winter.

White Flowered Vine

This is little vine is near our front gate. I have seen these vines that are absolutley loaded with flowers; ours is rather sparsely flowered, but still cute.

Pink Blossoms

Pinky-white tiny little blossoms on a little bush with spindly little green leaves - who knows what it might be.

More Pink Blossoms

These blossoms are on a shrub that is about 6 feet tall. I have seen these shrubs that are as big as trees. So maybe ours is just a little tree, not a shrub. The blossoms are 3/4" across.

Fuchsia

This single fuchsia blossom is nestled in a lavender bush!

Jade

There is a large jade plant right by the front door that is a funny yellow-more-than-green color that is in full bloom right now.

Pink Passion Flower

Not sure what this flower is called. Looks similar to something called a Passion Flower.

Double Daffodils

These look like miniture daffodils - the entire cluster of flowers is only 2.5" across.

Craggy Range Winery

Roger recently returned home from a couple of weeks in the US. The afternoon he got home was a beautiful winter day here. We went to lunch at the oh-so-posh Craggy Range Winery (boy were we under-dressed in our jeans and sweatshirts) on our way to Ocean Beach. It was an unbelievably warm day so we sat outside on their patio (i think they were quite happy to let our motely selves sit out there.) This photo and the next show some of the view from our table.

Pond and Pines

Patterns in the sand

After lunch we drove to the beach. This is the same beach we went to on Christmas Day when it was misting, blowing and quite chilly. This time, in the middle of winter here, it was sunny and calm. Only one other couple strolling the beach so much quieter too, than that summer Christmas day when it was busy with surfers and kids playing cricket. Virtually had the place to ourselves.

Yellow flowers on the beach

The next few photos are some of the flora on the beach. Amazing what's in bloom in the middle of the winter here.

Rockets on the beach

Rock Island

No idea what the name of this big rock might be. The sun on the white rock made a nice contrast against the blue of the water.

NZ transportation

The little CRV we leased when we arrived all but disintegrated a short while back ~ this is our newest vehicle. Sort of a cross between the Nissan Pathfinder and the X-Terra. They call this the Nissan X-Trail. It does a good job for us.

End of the Day

Sunset on the hills just metres from the beach.
